HNG PROGRAM DIRECTOR, BILL FOSTER, the Dean of America's
Junior Boys Coaches, is in his 43rd year teaching gymnastics to boys
from ages 6 on up. In 1983, he received the Frank Cumiskey Award,
USA Gymnastics' lifetime award for service to junior gymnasts, and
continues to serve on USAG Committees that oversee all aspects of
Boys Gymnastics.
Bill has coached 9
gymnasts who went to be members of Olympic and or World Championship
teams, including Olympians
Jonathan Horton (2008),
Raj Bhavsar
(2004, 2008), Chainey
Umphrery (1996),
Trent Dimas
(1992 Olympic High Bar Gold medalist),
John Rothlisberger
(1992, 1996, 2000), Lance
Ringnald (1988, 1992),
Scott
Johnson (1984,
1988), Brett Covey
(2002 WC) and Michael Chaplin
(1987 WC).
He has also developed dozens of Junior
National Champions and National team members who have competed all
over the world. Graduates of his programs have gone on to excel in
NCAA gymnastics as well.
These gymnasts make up a very small
percentage of the thousands of boys he has coached since 1966. They
achieved their success as a pat of a vast number of boys who learned
gymnastics in his programs, all of whom were given the opportunity
to succeed.
Houston North Gymnastics continues to thrive by
offering girls and boys these opportunities. Participation on a team is a
privilege offered to anyone who demonstrates the desire to join the willingness
to work hard and has learned the necessary basic skills. Progress is a result if
individual development, not following following a rigid, set program. By
offering this opportunity to everyone in the program, Houston North is
positioned to give all members the chance to enjoy the fun and challenges of
gymnastics, and to assist and guide their development.
HNG has been fortunate to include three
additional key staff members: master of all gymnastics disciplines
and junior coach of Clay Strother (2005, 2006 WC Team),
Richard (R.K.) Hurliman; girls coach
Jennifer Gutierrez; office manager
Kimberley Lopez. This is the team that
is developing our program and staff and
making HNG a great place for kids!
